Don Cherry, Sour Grapes

Gearing up for another hockey season. Leafs' got their parade date booked!

An old Hockey Night in Canada clip from 1986.

0:15 - Adams Division? Norris? Smythe? Team in Winnipeg?

0:35 - Coach's Corner! Though I don't recognize the theme. lol @ the cheesy 80s graphics.

0:55 - Who's the dude in the teal blazer? Where's Ron McLean? Reffing minor hockey somewhere...

1:10 - Cherry's suit is understated here. His wardrobe's gotten proressively more flamboyant over the years. Don Cherry's actually the most conservatively-dressed guy on screen!

1:40 - What's gotten Don in a pickle? Some Oiler fans had the audacity to boo The Great One! Maybe they had a point... this was the year Edmonton didn't win the cup.

1:50 - Close-up on Grapes... Little more hair on the head, little less on the chin. And that's some amateur camera-work there. Wher ewas this filmed? The CBC's production values have improved.

2:05 - Obligatory Bobby Orr anecdote.

3:02 - "And now they'll boo you" - good zinger Dave. Old Hodge plays a good foil.

3:30 - Only 2 minutes of airtime for Don?

Don isn't so outrageous here. No hysterics, no tantrums, no 7-second delay, manages to stay on topic - he's actually relatively sedate in this one. All that's missing are the highlight reels of bad calls, jabs at Russians, shout outs to Stevie Yzerman, Dougie and the armed forces, advice to "all you kids out there", "how much time is left"... and Ron's puns.
