Columbia, P.I.
(Disclaimer: Sorry James, this one's a scroller...)
When you're the propreitor of a website, you're always interested in who visits, reads, and lurks through your site. You're also interested in people that have mentioned you on their sites or linked to you on their blogs. Do some detective work and you're bound to uncover some interesting stuff. Who knew that 125 Columbia had quite a following?
First, from some guy named Peter Thurley of Dinner Table Donts from way back in June 10, 2005, who provides a good introduction:
In fact this list as well as one of a similar nature made the rounds, and was featured on the StudentLifeCentre blog:
The Siver, of the infamous (and now defunct) Drunken Loo clan, also referenced me:
The pseudonymous gloom appears to be our biggest groupie, because he referenced us three times. Initially, he had some downright frightening things to say...

- While going from blog to blog on the UW Bloggers hub, I came across a post on the blog 125 Columbia. Its a group of 5 guys who have their own house, and they post various tidbits about life in Waterloo. All 5 guys are racially different, so it makes for an interesting clash of cultures, and some interesting discussion of multiculturalism in Canada.
But this time, to show you what kind of school I actually go to, I present to you, compliments of the guys at 125 Columbia,
The University of Waterloo Lexicon:
There are words you'll hear tossed around in ordinary conversation at the University of Waterloo. An outsider, however, may be oblivious to their meaning. For the unadorned here is a list of these words along with their definitions.
In fact this list as well as one of a similar nature made the rounds, and was featured on the StudentLifeCentre blog:
- 125 Columbia, a blog for well… you can figure it out… has gotten hold of some very interesting stats about UW.
Things Waterloo's admissions books don't tell you…
1957: Waterloo's virgin year as a University.
1957: Virgins in the Math faculty.
English: The second-most common language spoken on campus.
Mandarin: The most common language spoken on campus.
40.0% Approximate percentage of student body that is Asian.
0.04% Approximate percentage of student body that is black.
70: % of the Arts faculty that is white and female.
0.7: % of the Math faculty that is white and female.
Check out the rest of the stats and the UW A-Z on thur page.

The Siver, of the infamous (and now defunct) Drunken Loo clan, also referenced me:
- Sen has taken my idea of doing a breakdown of the people in Math (the page which I have since taken down) and run with it. I think I'm most like a Skeptical Mathie, but there is no category that I really fit into. Maybe I'll think of what I am and send Sen some shit to update his page...
The pseudonymous gloom appears to be our biggest groupie, because he referenced us three times. Initially, he had some downright frightening things to say...
- I’ve moved into a new place a week ago. It’s really close from this place. Perhaps, I should go stalk them a little.
- I was feeling sad yesterday over the fact no one uses my off-campus housing mapper. After a half an hour or so of moping, I got tired of it and decided to cheer myself up by searching for random houses; that way at least one person (that is, me) is using it. This twisted exercise in self-assuagement unexpectedly led to a startling discovery: 125 Columbia St. W is seeking a new group of tenants for Fall 2006.
Will this venerable UW blogging institution stick together to continue their sleepless nights of writing and proofreading vaguely racist flamebaits at a new location? Will the new tenants claim the right to blog under the “125 Columbia” banner, resulting in an epic battle of honour (and purported expertises in trademark laws) between the men (and/or women) of two houses on the uwstudent.org troll board? How will Tom Levesque defend his title as the most hate-mailed man on campus once Sen starts writing for the Imprint, you know, for grad school applications?
- People you saw in classes, now on the Internet
Published by gloom March 2nd, 2006 in irrelevant, people
I guess it’s really true: everyone has a blog.
This guy was in some math class (can’t remember which one), this guy was in my CS 246 lecture section, and this guy was in that horrible combinatorics class. And, I am pretty sure I saw him on Columbia St. a few days ago; I don’t think he was in any of my classes though.
O-em-gee, indeed.
Finally, there's Brock Campbell's good buddy Gene:
- u guys ever heard about the 'team blog' thing, which we could have whole bunch of friends update our blog together? more info from more perspectives; more interactions thru more postings. i really really really wanna try that. if it interests you as well, pls givmme a shout :)

I suppose I did jack your stuff. But, being as unoriginal as I am, I figured you guys could say it better than I, so I left it the way it was. Trust me, if I'd tried to do a variation on it, you would have had worse things to say than that I jacked it.
4/15/2006 01:47:00 AMI have enjoyed reading 125 Columbia, and will continue to read for however long it exists.

I would very gladly pay a visit (especially if I can take pictures and put them on my blog). As for instruments, I vaguely remember my parents forcing me to take piano lessons.
5/02/2006 02:03:00 PMP.S. James, I think I saw you again. Were you at SCH 11ish on Monday?
