Stop Irresponsible Breeding
Two weeks and nobody has blogged?! What’s everybody doing…
I’m not sure why this particular anecdote comes to mind, but I recall about a couple months back in Waterloo when Pyo, Colin, Nattress and I were sitting around his living room. On TV was a rare prime time airing of the Price Is Right. It just so happened that it was Bob Barker’s last ever show.
So, in the showcase showdown, the contestants place their bids, and following commercials, the actual retail prices are revealed and the winner is announced. And to sign off, Bob Barker was characteristically low-key. He briefly thanked his viewers for 35 good years and signed off with his trademark, “Help control the pet population. Have your pets spayed or neutered. GOODNIGHT!”
Colin’s reaction was “THOSE are his last words?!” I think Colin wasn’t aware that “Help control the pet population. Have your pets spayed or neutered!” were Bob Barker’s trademark parting words at the end of every Price is Right.
I’m thinking - for someone who isn’t aware of Barker’s trademark line, the notion of an American icon ending an illustrious game show career by encouraging pet-neutering would indeed be pretty damn funny.
