Review on TV

My last view blogs have been about movies, but alas I must say the overall quality of such a medium has deminished over the years. Perhaps its because Arnie isn't making great action movies to set the standard, but in any case something better has emerged taking over the place of movies, and thats Television.

The quality in television programming has improved dramatically, and now movie stars more than ever are comming on TV with their own shows. With movie stars losing out on crappy movies, (Nicholas Cage in Wickerman, by far the worst movie all year) perhaps it is wise of them to cross over. In any a case, TV shows are not as linear as movies. TV has become very unpredicatble with main characters being killed right left and center. A season of a telvision is easier to watch then watching movies. For one, Movies have to fit a story (usually a clitched one) in a two hour slot. TV keeps you going with cliffhangers, perhaps this is why Lost is so popular. Movies just dont have the guts to end on a cliffhanger. Movies these days just mimic previous success, look at Pirates of the Caribbean 2, they are making a third one for gods sake, one is more than enough. Most movies have some kind of romance, and the hero typically triumphs over evil. This is not the case with TV, where often the show revolves around the villans or the heroes simply cant handle their situation. Relationships occur between the most unlikely of charatcers, (Angel and Cordilerlia on the Angel series), and the utter randomness adds to great entertainment.

Over time I will review shows on this blog, if there is a show you think I should watch because you think its great, just let me know and i'll try to download it sometime.

Ciao

pTristan man u HAVE to watch 24. Season 4 to be exact. Its insane. And yes I agree most movies follow set formula but for me personally, i simply don't have the time to watch a series on TV so movies are quite ok.

how about Arrested Development? Sure it's a comedy, but the linear story line makes the running gags totally worth it. Sure it lacks the theatrics of a 24, or Lost, but the ensemble cast is quite nimble and overall the show is most imperssive

hey soundfromwayout, I liked your post on TV here... You're right about how much of our generation's affinity for shows like SBTB, Full House, Family Matters etc. is really mired by nostalgia.

That said, I think it's sad that kids programming isn't as good now as in our day.

The Wire is the best show on TV, bar none.

The West Wing: Seasons 1-4 are incredible, Season 5 is horrible (save one or two episodes), Season 6 picks up near the end, and Season 7 is pretty damn good.

I have a ton of other recommendations, but that is a good starting point. Also for The Wire, you must watch the seasons in order or else nothing will make too much sense.
