Weekend in NYC!
Call me crazy if you will... this past weekend I drove 7 hours to Stamford, CT to hang out with Sen. At first it was a pleasant drive, navigating through scenic routes of Adirondack Mountains of northern New York State, I couldn't help but think how great that place would be for hiking and camping... only if the summer could last a few weeks longer! Then it got dark and suddenly all the nice views of the autumn leaves were gone - and I started wondering, why the hell did am I even doing this?? But eventually I made it to Stamford... tired and car-sick, but enough energy to go out for a beer at a local bar.
The next morning we took the MTA train to New York City - "the capital of the world", as some might say. Once we stepped out of Grand Central Station, we were amazed by all the billboards and the excess of yellow taxis flooding the streets. It was definitely a contrast from Cornwall - a city that has the population of only 3 blocks in NYC. Anyways, we met up with a buddy and for the next 2 days we basically looked around like typical tourists... Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, Empire State Building, Central Park, Chinatown, Little Italy.... As much as I would like to express my thoughts of every single place we visited, I really don't have the energy or the time... and if anybody here is going to write an essay, it should be Sen!
However, I would like to make the following points about the city as a whole...
1) The subway system is amazing. It can get you almost anywhere and it's not as dirty or dangerous as it's made out to be.
2) Manhattan Island is very small which makes it a great walking city. I like the fact that nobody needs a car.
3) It's an expensive city! $4 for a shish-kabob?? Are you kidding??
4) NYC is probably the only place in North America where Koreans don't get mistaken for Chinese and Japanese. It is also very gay friendly. Gotta love the diversity!
5) New Yorkers try too hard to look good.... why spend so much on your wardrobe if it obviously doesn't help your image that much? Just my opinion.

James, thanks for passing on the cold. Now I'm coked up on antihistamine. Getting better though...
