Where are the Koreans at UW?

One thing I have wondered about recently is where the Koreans are in Waterloo, because I hardly see any! On Sundays they are probably at church. Understandable. But what about the other 6 days of the week? Are they practicing their singing at K-Zone? Downing shots at Kickoff? Studying at MC?

I was also curious about the programs that most of them are taking here. They don't appear to dominate any particular faculty or program, but rather they are equally distributed between Engineering, Math, and Science - not like the Chinese groups that dominate Act Sci.

I cannot live with these kinds of uncertainties!! So what I did was enter the name "Kim" on UW People Search. The results provided me with a random sample of 25 Korean students and the faculty/program in which they are enrolled.

Here is how they are distributed among the school's faculties...

(Click to enlarge. Apologies for it not being clear.)

Keep in mind that the information provided was very limited. So I have no clue as to whether they are FOB or Canadian, male or female.

So anyways, from the results, I take it that Koreans are like most other minority groups - that they choose programs that would make them lots of money. It's either they are: greedy; smart (ie. good at math and science!); easily influenced by parents/friends; or have no interest in anything else.

You don't see as many Coreans these days because you don't spend as much time in the math building now. Your settings can really warp your perception of the demographic balance on campus.

Hey Sen, don't forget I spent 4 years in Math ;) I remember meeting lots of Koreans while I was in first year, but after that I don't know where they went. It seems that they got lost in the sea of Chinese FOBs and CBCs.

However I do admit the demographics in ES are very different from Math!
