Seven Pounds of Melancholy
Melancholy: The best single word to describe Will Smith’s latest movie Seven Pounds. A few days while Christmas shopping, a lone bill board caught my eye, didn’t know Will Smith had a new movie coming out, nor what it was about. Initially I wanted to see Valkyrie (A Tristan movie, favourite theme and all…) but it was sold-out. Will Smith, having never disappointing me before, was the reason why I went to see this movie blind.
This is not a movie for a first date! Nor is it a family movie. I’d only recommend this movie for a serious couple (guys can take advantage of the situation presented here…), or if you are simply in the mood for watching something very very depressing and are tempted with the idea of slitting your wrists. This movie was beyond emo; there’s a reason why I don’t watch these kinds of movies, because they are just torture to watch. Will Smith is a superb actor, but it was just too much of him; 2 depressing hours of the guy determining which people deserve saving and which do not, as we figure out through a series of rapid flash backs why he is doing this. ~ that is the plot of the movie!
Is this some kind of trend? Smith’s last movies revolve around him and no one else, I am Legend, Hancock to name a few. There are no other actors in this film worth mentioning because A, you probably have never heard or seen them, B, Smith outshines them totally. I give this movie 6 L out of 10. Save your money, if you are looking to get depressed walk to your local hospital.
My last post for 2008, Happy New Years to all and I look forward to the fresh new commentary for 2009, this blog is almost 4 years old!
