Places to go in Waterloo (part II)
Looks like its been a busy week for a lot of us, especially for those who happen to be in the middle of midterms and massive assignments. At least that’s our excuse for the lack of posts in the last few days. Anyhow, I’ve decided to break the silence once again and write a follow-up to Places to go in Waterloo (part I) posted earlier this week. So without further due, here are more places to go on a semi-drunk UW night out.
Elements
This place is known for its “Frosh Frenzies” in which they charge you up the ass for an advanced ticket (usually about $5), and even more at the door ($8?). However these are BIG hyped up events among 1st year students from 3 universities (UW, WLU & Guelph) so it might be worth your time and money. For some reason, there also tends to be more girls than guys at this place.
Atmosphere: 9 out of 10
Friendliness: 8 out of 10
Drink selection: 7 out of 10
Music: 5 out of 10
McGinnis FrontRow
A sports bar across the street from UW Place residences. A nice place in the summer to sit out on the patio with a pint in your hand, and would be fun seeing a Leafs game on the big TV screen inside. Unfortunately it is not summer and there is no hockey at the moment, so for now it is nothing more than an ordinary bar with slow service.
Atmosphere: 7 out of 10
Friendliness: 5 out of 10
Drink selection: 6 out of 10
Music: don’t remember, so it can’t be that good. 5 out of 10
Philthy McNasty’s
A restaurant which has a bar and dance floor in the basement, located off the southwest corner of campus. It tends to attracts many UW students living in Ron Eydt Village, and for some reason, WLU students. There isn’t really anything unique about it… like many other places it tends to get busy late at night, even on Mondays sometimes. And oh yea, make sure you tip the guy in the washroom who hands you the paper towels.
Atmosphere: 6 out of 10
Friendliness: 5 out of 10
Drink selection: 5 out of 10
Music: like any typical club. 5 out of 10
Revolution
It’s probably the largest night club in Waterloo, nearly as big as the Kool Haus in Toronto. Inside, you may bump into one of the following: a) A drunken underaged UW friend, b) A local high school slut, or c) A local Eminem wannabe. So if you are an under-aged prospective student of UW, keep this place in mind. Soon you’ll be as corrupted as the rest of us!
Atmosphere: 4 out of 10 (but I’m not a big “club” person)
Friendliness: 5 out of 10
Drink selection: 5 out of 10
Music: again, like any typical club. 5 out of 10

Hey guys. I would just like to say thanks for the brief nightlife overview. I just moved here and had no idea. Nice site by the way. I'm a web designer myself and work for Spheric Technologies (www.spheric.ca) and am a freelancer on the side. I have only been to Phils and Philthy MacNasty;s but I'd have to agree with your ratings so far.
