Go Blue, Not Green
Even with all my lesson planning for school, I am writing this blog first! I find it extremely sad, that this blog is filled with stuff about the American election and little about Canada. Sen once told me that the American election surpasses the Canadian election for the simple fact that what happens in the US, has greater ramifications than picking our own government! I won’t go into that debate today…
Steven Harper. Here is a man that didn’t promise much, but ended up leader regardless. Why is that? My guess, is that people are tired of being lied to, fed up with being told so many things, only to see that they never take place. This is what happened to the Liberals. They promised and promised and promised, but failed to deliver. Harper on the other hand made few promises, i.e. lowering the GST by one percent and accomplished it. People don’t need to be promised the world, what people want are sound policies, to which their country will grow ever stronger. This is the reason why I support Republicans in the south. In the current economic crisis, I don’t think tax breaks are feasible. Obama, is simply telling people what they want to hear, so that they will vote for him. I just want people to look at Harper as a fine example of how to run a country. At first, I was skeptical of a right wing political party ruling our great nation, but I believe that under Harper’s leadership, Canada has become an even better nation.
The only party that truly pisses me off are the Greens. I honestly don’t care who wins the US elections, but I never in my lifetime want the Greens to win. I hate people who speak doom and gloom about our environment, and argue that we are killing the Earth. Greenhouse gas is good. Why, because plants need it. The more greenhouse gas, the more plants will thrive. There are more trees in North America, than ever in history. Why? Because its simply not profitable to cut down trees for no reason. Plus, these days, if we cut down one tree, we plant 2-3 more trees in its place, and the extra greenhouse gases helps them to grow! Go up north to Thunder Bay, and all you will see are trees. There are more trees in Canada than there are Canadians. The Greens just throw us Bullshit facts, and use scare tactics to get people to vote. I am so happy to live in a country where the Green Party’s leader, loses in an election. For more information about that contradicts the environmental movement, please watch an episode 5 Season 2 of Pen and Teller’s Bullshit! There is a counter argument to the Greens, and I am tired that I have to take it up the ass, when ever an environmentalist speaks. What makes them right and not me, and why do we have to all politically correct now about green initiatives? I’ll write a more concrete post on this position, in the near future. My next post will be on TV, to help diversify this blog.

Umm.. I don't remember "trees" being a big part of the Green Party's platform. I guess we have lots of trees.. *shrug*
10/17/2008 01:23:00 PMYes, we all know plants do need carbon dioxide. Is Tim Ball your hero?

yo honestly tristan man, you're using Pen and Teller and your brief 2 months in thunderbay as a source of rebuttal against the current global warming crisis? Because there are more trees the greenhouse effect is a lie? Get some solid facts man.
10/17/2008 01:33:00 PMps. Go Obama.

I am sorry, but I don't believe our world is dying. I am a skeptic of Global Warming, and yes, agree with Tim Ball. Chan, you once told me that its better to act instead of talking, and you are right. Modern Science will prevail, the markets will forsee that...
10/17/2008 06:15:00 PMAs for Pen and Teller, they have some interesting facts that go against the status quo, and I find there 'rants' rather informative, I'd at least hear them out. I dont agree with everything they say, but they have some rather interesting arguments. If anything please watch that episode on the enviroment/recylcing, and you'll see what I mean.
James you are right, trees aren't in the Green Party's agenda, that was more of a rant on my part, having to listen to people tell me not to waste paper. All I am saying is that we should look at the Green Movement from both sides.

You're saying we should look at the Green Movement from both sides?? Are you kidding me?? Climate change is a science... and in science, things are either right or wrong, black or white with no grey area! It's like arguing whether or not aids can kill you.
10/17/2008 09:13:00 PMNow if you want to argue, lets say, whether it's a good idea to ratify to Kyoto, we can get trashed and argue it all night because that's a political/economic topic. But climate is science, so please let the facts speak for themselves.
According to the most credible scientists in the world, we ARE changing the planet, bigtime, and Tim Ball is a fat, bald whipping boy who has ties with the oil industry. I actually think climate change skeptics are over-represented, since most of them don't even have the credibility to speak about such a topic.
It's funny how everyone thinks they're a climatologist these days.

Well Tristan, if it's any consulation, I voted blue as well. Quite frankly, it's a luxury to be able to worry about the trees and the whales. I'm worried about what this economy looks like when I graduate and am looking for work. I sure as hell don't want to vote in a guy like Dion, and voting for anything other than conservative or liberal is basically throwing away your vote. Jack Layton? Don't even get me started on that guy. Besides, Harper hasn't fucked up too much yet, has he?

James, you are correct in saying climate change is science and we should let the facts speak for themselves. I totally agree; however, climate change is also politics which unfortunately takes more weight than science these days.
10/18/2008 09:04:00 AMFor some great information about the climate change debate:
Documentaries:
The Great Global Warming Swindle
Apocalypse? No!
Book:
The Deniers by Lawrence Solomon
Solomon also frequently writes about the climate science debate in his column in the National Post. Actually, reading his column is what first got me interested in the science of climate change and made me serioulsy start to doubt the mainstream scientific "concensus". Interestingly, as an environmentalist and journalist, his Deniers column started as a bet to see if he could find ONE credible scientist against the notion of man-made climate change. Well, as is turned out he found more than just a handful, turning him and myself into skeptics. As well, many of the scientists he found were leaders in their respective scientific disciplines.

Also, just to be picky. I am not saying climate change doesn't exist. What I am saying is that anthropogenic climate-change is negligible. Climate change IS occuring, IS completely natural, and IS not within the realms of mankind's control.
