Tied to the 90s
Despite my interest in the 70s and 80s I will always be a 90s kid at heart. Afterall the 90s was the decade in which I grew up and the first I really experienced. Lets be honest, not too many of us were into Michael Jackson when he was still a black male, or The Rolling Stones before they became living skeletons. However we could say we danced to the Macarena at our grade 7 class party and that we were watching P. Diddy videos when he was still known as “Puff Daddy”.
I know for a fact that my roommate Rian certainly misses the 90s. If you’ve been at our place during the day you’ve probably overheard some Oasis, Bran Van 3000, Big Wreck and Radiohead coming out of his laptop. I give him credit (as well as MuchMoreMusic’s Top 20s) for reviving a lot of these songs for me.
Anyways, here is a set of songs which many of us 90s kids might have heard on top 40 radio or downloaded off Napster (remember that famous legendary software?) If they don’t bring back any memories however, then you are more than welcome to post your own list of 90s classics. Keep in mind I left out much of the early parts of the decade because I was kinda young then.

These guys were HUGE until they disappeared for like 4 years and everyone forgot about them. Just about every “rocker” in 7th grade had a copy of Razorblade Suitcase, myself included. Now the only thing we care about is how Gavin Rosedale is banging Gwen Stefanie.
All About the Benjamins
by Puff Daddy
If you watched a lot of MuchMusic in 1998, there’s a good chance you might have seen one of the videos for this song. My favourite features Mr. Sean Combs walking onstage at a prom and simply rocking out with Foxy Brown, The Lox and a backing band. I wish my own prom was like this.
Drinking in L.A.
by Bran Van 3000
It’s one of my favourite one hit wonders of the 90s and a great party song which features a unique blend of R&B, hip hop, and electronica. Plus, they are Canadian!
Don’t Look Back In Anger
by Oasis
Oasis were at the top of the Britpop fad in the mid 90s which also included bands like Blur, Pulp, Elastica, and Kula Shaker. If there is something you regret about your teen or pre-teen years, you can label this song to it. It has a well-crafted melody and echoes of John Lennon. You might also be familiar with Champagne Supernova, Don’t Go Away, D’You Know What I Mean?, and a nice little song called Wonderwall.
Longview
by Green Day
Remember those summer days when you’d be too young to get a job but also too old for something childish as camp? Longview was the anthem for those confusing days. It also introduced punk to a new generation and brought it back into the mainstream. We can give Green Day credit/blame for the popularity of bands like The Offspring, Rancid, Eve 6, Blink 182, etc.
Now I can go on forever listing many more great songs from the 90s, but instead I’ll leave the rest up to you! (I am not Sen)

WHAT?! No Candlebox or the Toadies? And Where is "Bittersweet Symphony"? No Our Lady of Peace? Man alive...

Hey, i was actually thinking about adding "Bittersweet Symphony" and "Superman's Dead" - they were both top songs by great bands (Verve especially), but i didn't want to go on listing too many songs. I also tried to be as diverse as possible, and because I had already mentioned Oasis, I decided not to go into any bands that fit in a similar category, like The Verve.
