Getting down in Motown (continued)
(Really December 9, 2008 by Mike - Edit)
While I was in Detroit, I stayed at the Book Cadillac Westin Hotel. The rooms were plain, but the building exterior was beautiful, as was the ballroom and lobby.
The ballroom

The Italian Wedding Room

Looking outside from my room

A statue of sorts

Beautiful...and abandoned. Most North American cities would kill to have the architectural bones Detroit has.

Another abandoned building

The people mover. Detroits rapid transit system! For 50 cents, you get to loop around the downtown core.

Going for a little walk around the financial district.

Woodward Ave

My hotel from the outside

Some hope?

Entering Greektown
This is the only vibrant neighborhood I saw when I was in Detroit. The city would be wise to play upon its strengths and expand from there.

Detroit has built a few casinos in recent years, helping it gain some ground as an entertainment destination.

Hospital

Downtown Dearborn

Michigan Ave.
Welcome to Ghettoville, USA. Make sure you put on your bulletproof vest, lol!
Notice the abundance of liquor stores, pawn shops, and cheque-cashing institutions. Pretty much everything else was abandoned. This was the road we took coming back downtown from Dearborn. It started turning ghetto basically as soon as you entered city limits. Nothing I've seen in Canada compares. The closest I've seen is Barton Street in Hamilton, but even that is pretty tame by comparison.

Waterloo and RIM leaves its mark on the Motor City.

On the side of the building..."Jesus es el senor"

Abandoned train station...what a shame.

Glad I wasn't staying here...

Skyline shot

No comment, lol.
